Jay Feely did not want to take a pay cut from the Jets, so he looked for and found another opportunity in Arizona.

“It had to do with money, no question,” Feely told ESPN 1050. “It would be a lie to say that it didn’t.”

Over the weekend, Feely said the Jets wanted him to take a $300,000 pay cut from the $1.5 million he made last season. He signed with the Cardinals for two years, $4.5 million.

Despite this being an NFL season without a salary cap, Feely said GM Mike Tannenbaum told him he didn’t fit the Jets’ budget.

Feely said it was because the Jets have top-level players at several positions — naming CB Darrelle Revis, LB David Harris, C Nick Mangold and LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson — who will need bigger contracts soon.

“They’ve got all these guys they want to be the foundation of the team, so they’re going to have to make concessions somewhere to get that done,” Feely said. “And (kicker) was one of the positions where they decided that they could save some (money).”

The Jets signed Nick Folk this offseason and were thought to be interested in Neil Rackers, who signed with the Texans.
