The Battle for MetLife carries high stakes for both the Giants and Jets.

Daniel Jones is out again with his neck injury, meaning Tyrod Taylor will once again start at quarterback for the Giants.

They enter the clash last in the NFC East at 2-5, coming off a win over the rival Commanders.

A win Sunday is needed to keep their season alive.

The Jets, meanwhile, are coming off their bye week at 3-3 and look to resume the momentum they built from back-to-back wins over the Broncos and Eagles before the break.

The two sides only face off every four years, meaning the winner will carry bragging rights for the foreseeable future.

Graham Gano’s critical Giants field goal miss opened door for Brian Daboll second-guess

By Ryan Dunleavy

Graham Gano’s sudden kicking inaccuracy left a target squarely on the chest of head coach Brian Daboll.

With the Giants leading by three points and facing a fourth-and-1, Daboll sent out Gano for a 35-yard field goal that, if converted and combined with a near-automatic touchback, would have forced the Jets to drive the length of the field in 24 seconds with no timeouts to steal a win.

Given that the Jets had converted one third down and gained eight first downs over the first 59 minutes, it sounded preposterous enough that the Giants’ win probability was the same (99.7 percent) whether they kicked or tried to gain a first down, according to ESPN.

Kayvon Thibodeaux’s dominant Giants outing in face of critics had perfect ending spoiled

By Jared Schwartz

Kayvon Thibodeaux deserved the game-sealing play to cap off one of the best showings of his young career.

Instead, he sunk to a bright spot in what became an otherwise nightmarish result for the Giants.

Leading 10-7, Thibodeaux sacked Jets quarterback Zach Wilson on fourth-and-10 with 1:26 left in the game.

The Jets turned it over on downs as a result, and a Giants victory appeared all but a formality.

Jets’ ‘sloppy’ victory followed 59 minutes of horror vs. Giants

By Brian Costello

This was not quite the Miracle at the Meadowlands.

For 59 minutes for the Jets, it was more like the Mess at the Meadowlands.

But then the Jets pulled out an improbable 13-10 overtime victory over the crosstown rival Giants and they are now 4-3 and very much in the playoff hunt.

“I’m still trying to figure out how we won,” wide receiver Allen Lazard said.

He is not alone.

Jets need more than Zach Wilson flashing ‘glimmer of Aaron Rodgers’

By Mark Cannizzaro

It’s the glimpses of greatness that tease you.

Even after 59 minutes and 36 seconds of utterly disgusting offensive football and questionable quarterbacking, Zach Wilson showed you glimpses on Sunday at MetLife Stadium that it’s in there somewhere.

Those glimpses show you what it’s supposed to look like, what the Jets saw in Wilson and why they drafted him second overall three years ago.

It’s just that the Jets cannot survive on mere glimpses of the Wilson who stood under center at his own 25-yard-line with 24 seconds remaining and no timeouts trailing the Giants 10-7 and led them to force overtime and eventually win 13-10.

Giants’ season looks lost after all-time collapse against Jets

By Paul Schwartz

It was unsightly and unconventional and bizarre and flawed and weird and born out of desperation.

And somehow, some way, the strange and unusual formula the Giants had concocted was going to lead them to a most improbable and beautifully ugly victory over the Jets.

It was all there for the Giants, leading 10-7 with 28 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter Sunday as Graham Gano trotted onto the field to attempt a 35-yard field goal to give his team a six-point lead, with the Jets out of timeouts and in a game-long scoring funk.

The fact that the Giants, down to a practice squad, third-string quarterback, basically refused to attempt a pass after halftime and turned offensive football back several decades with a hand-it-to-Saquon Barkley attack and still were on the precipice of a season-saving triumph was astounding.

Giants Week 8 report card: Critical call gone wrong not on Brian Daboll

By Paul Schwartz

Offense

Welcome to the prehistoric age or run, run, run, punt and hope Saquon Barkley can do something otherworldly. Disaster struck when Tyrod Taylor (4 of 7, 8 yards) went down in the second quarter, forcing Tommy DeVito (2 of 7, minus-2 yards) to make his NFL debut. He ran for the only touchdown his team scored but otherwise was asked to hand it off to Barkley (36-128), who was an absolute workhorse. It is not as if the line was plowing open holes for him.

In 14 pass attempts, there were four sacks allowed. Total of 203 rushing yards but only 3.9 yards per attempt. Third down? You had to ask. Converting 2 of 19 is not getting it done. Neither is 7 passing yards. The longest pass-play of the game for the Giants was 4 yards.

Xavier Newman’s ‘on the fly’ adjustments saved Jets in offensive line crisis

By Ryan Dunleavy

You can imagine every Jets fan impersonating Jerry Seinfeld and grunting “Newman!” through clenched teeth after the Jets fumbled away a snap.

Then again, that scenario assumes that any Jets fan knew Xavier Newman’s name by the time that the fourth-string center took over Sunday in the second quarter.

So, who is Newman? He is a practice-squad player who was elevated to the game-day roster as a backup, was pressed into action at guard and then forced into an even tougher spot at center because of two teammates’ injuries, and overcame a key mistake to rescue the Jets from a pickle in a stunning 13-10 victory against the Giants.

Dexter Lawrence has one word to describe Giants' letdown

By Andrew Crane

Dexter Lawrence paused for a moment after fielding a question about the feeling in the Giants' locker room after their loss to the Jets.

And then he decided on one word to describe their overtime loss: "pissed," Lawrence told reporters. The Giants defense only allowed 251 yards of total offense and forced Zach Wilson to fumble twice.

Dexter Lawrence was asked about the mood in the Giants' locker room after the Giants' loss:
