Odell Beckham Jr. was finalizing a deal with the Los Angeles Rams, and then he wasn’t, and then he did.

The whole saga has been profoundly entertaining and confusing to monitor on social media, so we’ve decided to prepare a tick-tock of what transpired this afternoon.

3:43 p.m.: Ian Rapoport and Kim Jones of NFL Media say Beckham Jr. is down to the Rams and Packers for where he will play.

3:44 p.m.: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Beckham Jr. is finalizing a deal with the Rams.

3:49 and 3:50 p.m.: Beckham Jr. tells Josina Anderson and Kim Jones on the record that he is “on the fence” between the Rams and Packers.

3:54 p.m.: USA Today’s Mike Jones purports to confirm Schefter’s original report, despite Beckham Jr. having just gone on the record to the contrary.

3:54 p.m.: Jordan Rodrigue of The Athletic shares a screengrab of a welcome announcement for Beckham Jr. on the Rams’ website.

3:59 p.m.: Annnnnd, it’s gone.

4:12 p.m.: Rams it is!

So what the heck happened here? Were Beckham Jr. and his agent on a different wavelength, where the Rams thought they had a deal done but the receiver himself had not yet signed off? Had Beckham Jr. indeed agreed to terms with the Rams, but perhaps gotten upset that the news leaked before he could direct the information himself? Could this really all have changed so much in the span of a half-hour? The world will probably never know. You have to keep your head on a swivel in these NFL Twitter streets.
