Eric Decker’s masterplan is complete.

He entered free agency this offseason in hopes that he’d get to rejoin his former head coach, Josh McDaniels, in New England, he told the Boston Globe. McDaniels, who is the Patriots offensive coordinator, drafted Decker in the third round of the 2010 draft out of Minnesota when he was the Broncos head coach.

Decker signed a one-year deal with the Patriots last week worth $1.9 million, though he could make as much as $2.5 million based on receptions, according to NFL.com.

“This is the place, really all offseason, I’d have loved to end up,” Decker told the paper. “They do it the right way.”

Decker played for one season in Denver under McDaniels, who was fired in the middle of his awful second season there.

“Josh drafted me in Denver, gave me an opportunity,” Decker said. “Probably the smartest football coach I’ve had in my career. Guy knows his X’s and O’s. He’s good with relationships, good getting things going offensively, so it’s good being back with him.”

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver would spend another three seasons with the Broncos before playing with the Jets and the Titans.

He struggled with a hip injury in 2016 while he was playing for the Jets, who released him before last season. He then signed with the Titans, catching 54 passes for 563 yards and a touchdown in 2017.

The Patriots will be thin on wide receivers to start the season. Julian Edelman will miss the first four games with a PED suspension and the team on Monday released Malcolm Mitchell, who has struggled with knee injuries.
