I’m wracked with guilt right now.

I’ve scared Ryan Fitzpatrick away from his barber shop.

Much to my horror, here was Fitzpatrick, his formidable beard making a mockery of Nick Mangold’s, his hair full and high, telling the Jets’ website Thursday:

“Somebody wrote an article about my barbershop a couple of months ago, so I couldn’t go back to the barbershop, you know. I’ve been trying to avoid the media and stay in my cave.”

Yes, that somebody was me.

I feel terrible for the good barbers I met early last month at V’s Barbershop in Chatham, N.J., who now have been forced to wait for Fitzpatrick longer than his Jets teammates did during his contract impasse. And he has been hailed as a big-time tipper, too!

Maybe now that Fitzpatrick has signed his one-year, $12 million deal, he will feel free to leave his cave and head back to the lonely barbers at V’s Barbershop for a much-needed shave. And from the sound of things, Fitzpatrick’s wife, no fan of the beard, would drive him there herself.

Hair’s what I’ll do: I’ll pick up the tab. Tip included.
