PHOENIX — The Jets fired offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo two years ago. He spent a year out of football before the Patriots hired him for the same spot last ago.

Now, he’s in the Super Bowl.

DeGuglielmo was an interesting figure in the tumultuous 2012 Jets season that featured Tim Tebow, a 6-10 finish and plenty of drama. DeGuglielmo fought with the media in a few memorable press conferences, drew former general manager Mike Tannenbaum’s ire when he said the front office was forcing him to play Vlad Ducasse. All of it led to a short stay with the Jets.

“Every experience is a little different,” he said this week. “I enjoyed my time in Florham Park. The people there were good people. Rex [Ryan] is a good guy to work for. [Owner Woody] Johnson’s a good man. Believe it or not, I had a pretty pleasant experience besides the fact that you guys didn’t like me.”

DeGuglielmo had a tough job this season, replacing the legendary Dante Scarnecchia as O-line coach. The unit had some tough times early in the season as the Patriots tried to figure out the right combination. When they did, the Patriots took off.

After years of seeing the Patriots from the opposing sideline as a Giants, Dolphins and Jets assistant, DeGuglielmo is enjoying being with them.

“They find a way to do the Patriot thing to get the win,” DeGuglielmo said. “So, when you do that 10, 12, 14 times [as an opponent], it’s like, ugh. Now, I’m on the other side. Now when we block a field goal to win the game I go, ‘It’s nice to be a Patriot.’ Those are things I’ve stood over there (on the other sideline) and watched.”

If that’s your team …

Hometown patriotism dies hard, even for the mayor of New York City.

Bill de Blasio, who grew up in Cambridge, Mass., picked his hometown Patriots to win today’s Super Bowl.

“I am not wearing a jersey. But I would be happy to wear Tom Brady’s jersey!” said Hizzoner at a Saturday event in Brooklyn.

The Seahawks conducted a walk-through on Saturday as their final practice before Sunday’s game. Once again, all 63 active Seahawks — 53 on the active roster, plus 10 practice squad players — participated in Saturday’s walk-through. That included safety Kam Chancellor, who fell on the second-to-last play of Friday’s session and exited practice with his left knee wrapped.

“He looked pretty good today,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Chancellor, who is listed as probable. “We will make sure we test him in pregame, but he remarkably looked great today, and so that’s all we have to go on.”

Patriots coach Bill Belichick canceled the Patriots’ walkthrough, saying the Patriots were as ready as they were going to be.

Both teams had their team photos taken on Saturday.

Bill and Pete lovefest

Seated side-by-side during Friday’s final press conference, Belichick and Carroll were posed the following question: Is there one attribute in other guy you wish you had?

What followed was a mutual-admiration-society meeting.

Carroll: “What I’m always impressed by is the consistency the performer or team can have over a long period of time and sustain. The fact that these guys — some of the numbers that you throw out, like having the first round bye 10 times in your time at one club, all the championship opportunities and all of the Super Bowls. The ability to continue to show, regardless of the personnel and regardless of the coaching staff — who some have gone on to do great things — and players that have come and gone too, they’ve maintained the consistency of championship-level play, and that’s Bill.”

Belichick: “Well, I think when I’ve watched Pete’s teams play through the years — most particularly with Seattle — the thing that impresses me the most and the thing that I guess I would like to do a better job of, is just the way that his teams play for 60 minutes. They play from the opening kickoff to the final whistle or the final gun. They play from the snap of the ball until the whistle blows at the end of the play. They play extremely hard down after down after down, week after week, year after year.”

Everything goes ‘white’ for champions

The team wearing white jerseys has won nine of the past 10 Super Bowls (the Packers won it four years ago wearing green jerseys). The Giants wore white when they won Super Bowls XLII and XLVI.

Thankfully for the Patriots, they will wear white on Sunday. … This is the sixth time both starting quarterbacks in the Super Bowl previously have won a Super Bowl; Tom Brady has three, Russell Wilson one.

Wilson will be the youngest quarterback (26 years, 64 days) to start two Super Bowls. Brady previously was the youngest to do that. Wilson is the first quarterback to start two Super Bowls in his first three NFL seasons.
