QUARTERBACKS C+ Chad Pennington (23-40, 300 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 79.2 rating) got banged around a little bit but showed toughness and kept the Jets in the game into the fourth quarter. His red zone performance wasn’t great.

RUNNING BACKS D Leon Washington (11-50 rushing, 4-25 receiving) had some small spurts of life. Cedric Houston had only one run for no yards. The running game was, in general, non existent.

WIDE RECEIVERS C Jerricho Cotchery led the way with four catches for 100 yards, including a 77-yard TD. Laveranues Coles (5-45) was held in check as was Justin McCareins (2-31).

TIGHT ENDS C+ Chris Baker (5-68) was unstoppable when Pennington threw to him. Run blocking was tough sledding for Baker and Sean Ryan.

OFFENSIVE LINE C Pennington was sacked three times and hurried several others. LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson had some troubles in pass pro tection. The run blocking was inconsistent.

DEFENSIVE LINE D DT Dewayne Robertson had a big forced fumble. Not a good enough job slowing the New England running game. Not enough pressure on Tom Brady.

LINEBACKERS D Worst play by the group came from Brad Kassell, who bit on a play fake by Brady at the end of the first half.

SECONDARY D S Erik Coleman had 10 tackles, S Kerry Rhodes had six tackles. CB Hank Poteat had a rough game with a number of passes caught on him and he was called for a killer 22-yard pass interference penalty.

SPECIAL TEAMS C Kickoff coverage wasn’t good with Lau rence Maroney averaging 24 yards on three returns and Ellis Hobbs averaging 27 yards on two returns.

KICKING GAME C+ Mike Nugent made all three of his FG attempts (28, 21 and 37 yards). Ben Gra ham averaged 34.3 yards gross on three punts, 27.7 yards net.

COACHING C- This time around, Eric Mangini was out foxed by Bill Belichick, who made some terrific counter moves on offense to off set the Jets’ aggressive blitzing defense.
