Not only is Plaxico Burress attempting to stay out of jail, he’s also trying to recoup millions of dollars he believes he’s owed by the Giants.
There was no decision yesterday from Special Master Stephen Burbank at the University of Pennsylvania Law School on a grievance filed by the NFL Players Association on behalf of Burress.
The decision should come .
Union lawyers argued the Giants should not have withheld the $1 million portion of Burress’ original $4.5 million signing bonus that was supposed to be paid by Dec. 25. The Giants never made that payment after Burress on Nov. 29 accidentally shot himself in the thigh.
Burbank, who heard arguments from lawyers representing the NFLPA and also the NFL Management Council, is expected to make a decision within one week. Prior to the hearing, the sides tried to reach a compromise and will continue to negotiate.
This is one of the two grievances filed by the NFLPA on behalf of Burress, who was suspended without pay for the final four games of the season and fined one week’s salary by the Giants after the shooting incident. The union characterizes that punishment as “excessive,” and a second arbitration hearing is expected to be heard in June.
