The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that K Mike Nugent has rejected the Jets offer and is now an unrestricted free agent, who will be looking to sign with another team this offseason.

Nugent suffered a strained right quadriceps in the Jets’ season-opening win against the Dolphins and missed the rest of the season. Jay Feely replaced Nugent last season and will likely be the Jets’ kicker next season. Feely hit 24-of-28 field goals for Gang Green last season, including his final 14 kicks.

“I have so much respect for the organization and my teammates, but I feel it might be time for me to move on,” Nugent told the Ledger via e-mail.

“(General manager) Mike (Tannenbaum), (director of football operations) Ari (Nissim) and the coaches have been incredibly understanding of my decision process and I am really grateful to them.”

The Jets selected Nugent in the second round of the 2005 draft out of Ohio State.
