Rex Ryan was amused by the speculation that the Jets traded for quarterback Kevin O’Connell, the former New England third-round draft pick, to pick his brain about the Patriots.

“That’s good,” he said. “Let people think that. That’s fine with me. [But] he was not brought here to be an assistant coach; he was brought here to be a quarterback. Now, will we pump him for information or something like that? Yeah. Who am I kidding?”

The Jets acquired O’Connell on Sunday from the Lions, who had picked him up after he was cut by the Patriots.

“If we can get something, absolutely. If you’ve got anything to help us, go for it. But that’s not why we brought him in. We just think if we have a chance to get a good football player that we think can help us, whether it’s immediately or down the road, we’re going to try to add that player,” Ryan said.

Jets S Kerry Rhodes has been teasing a so-called big announcement on his Twitter account for a couple of days, saying he’d come clean yesterday.

His big news was about a ticket, airfare and hotel giveaway for the Jets’ Oct. 12 Monday night game against the Dolphins in South Florida.

In conjunction with the Jets’ new business relationship with JetBlue Airlines, Rhodes is giving airfare, two tickets and a hotel for two nights to a contest winner.

Rhodes took some chiding from a few of his teammates, who are fellow Twitter users, for the build-up of his big announcement.

“Very anticlimactic announcement,” Jets K Jay Feely tweaked.

“What am I going to do now that there is no big announcement to follow with every minute?” Jets C Nick Mangold said.

As expected, the Jets brought RB Danny Woodhead back to the roster, yesterday signing him on to the practice squad. They waived FB Jehuu Caulcrick.

Woodhead rushed for 158 yards and two TDs in the Jets’ preseason finale. After initially making the 53-man roster, he was waived on Sunday.
