John Isner, a huge NFL fan and Georgia alum, couldn’t hide his disgust over 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision not to stand for the national anthem in protest to how minorities are treated.
“I thought that was pathetic from him,” Isner said after his five-set victory over Frances Tiafoe. “The cause he was going for, fine by me, but don’t do it in that fashion. He could have found some other ways to present his voice there. A lot of NBA players have done it and good on them. For him doing it that way really irked me. I’m a big Blaine Gabbert fan now.”
Kaepernick is competing with Gabbert for the 49ers starting job.
