Even something as simple as a few kickers working out is shrouded in secrecy for the Patriots.

The Patriots are having a few kickers come in for a workout on Wednesday at some point as Stephen Gostkowski, who has struggled this season, is set to undergo season-ending left hip surgery, according to ESPN. The Boston Globe first reported Gostkowski was going on injured reserve.

Bill Belichick denied that the workout had already happened early Wednesday, but seemingly confirmed that they would be occurring later in the day.

“I don’t think we’ve worked anybody out yet,” Belichick told reporters.

Gostkowski missed four extra-point attempts and one field goal in eight tries.

“I don’t think any of that is related to competition,” Belichick said.

The 35-year-old Gostkowski signed a two-year, $8.5 million deal in the offseason. Gostkowski is in his 14th season with the Patriots. He’s been a part of three Super Bowl-winning teams, is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All Pro. Last season, Gostkowski made 49 of 50 extra-point attempts.
