You would expect a brother to stick up for his identical twin and that’s exactly what Buccaneers cornerback Ronde Barber did today. Ronde on Sirius NFL Radio said he was dismayed that Tiki got booed Sunday night during the halftime Giants Ring of Honor ceremony.
“It reflects poorly on the Giants fans,” Ronde said. “They were there to honor him for what he did on the football field and they let what he’s done post-football come into play. I think it’s unfortunate. I think a lot of people will come to his defense. People that know and love Tiki know that it shouldn’t have gone out that way, it shouldn’t have happened that way.
“I heard from our manager, Mark Lepselter, that [Michael] Strahan gave him a hug and walked him off the field cause it probably could have got ugly. But Tiki’s a thick-skinned guy. I think he understood probably what was going to happen. I just wish that it wouldn’t have. It was supposed to be a joyous moment for all 30 of those people, those Giants that got inducted into that Ring of Honor, and to have the reaction that they had for Tiki is a little bit unfortunate.”
Tiki Barber earlier that week said coach Tom Coughlin was at a crisis point with his team after a loss to the Titans.
The Giants defeated the unbeaten Bears 17-3 to even their record at 2-2.
