The Titans avoided severe punishment but are still facing a potential fine after the NFL and NFL Players Association completed their review of the team’s COVID-19 outbreak, NFL Network reported Monday.
Following several reports of the Titans breaking coronavirus protocol, the league opened up an investigation into the club and sent warning messages around the league that threatened to impose forfeits, the loss of draft picks and discipline for individual players who don’t follow the rules imposed to stop the spread of the virus.
The investigation found “instances of failure to comply with requirements on wearing masks, as well as insufficient clear communication regarding workouts outside the facility,” per NFL Network.
The violations included players and staff congregating in hallways without masks. According to NFL Network, the Titans were fully cooperative with the review, providing documents and video and helping facilitate interviews.
Several Tennessee players held an off-site workout at the beginning of October while the team was supposed to be quarantined following multiple players and staff members testing positive for the virus, Titans insider Paul Kuharsky reported. The report also says that the league told the team that “no in-person meetings, workouts or activities at the facility or elsewhere” should be held in wake of the positive tests.
Fifteen players, including quarterback Ryan Tannehill, took part in the workout at Montgomery Bell Academy, per Newschannel 5 in Nashville.
There have been 24 total known cases on the Titans since the start of the season.
