Dreaming of a Tom Brady-Rob Gronkowski reunion in Tampa Bay?
Gronkowski’s brother is here to pour cold beer on that idea.
“I can’t say anything for him,” Chris Gronkowski told TMZ. “But, I think that he might be moving on. … I would be surprised for sure.”
Rob Gronkowski retired a year ago Tuesday at the age of 29 and though questions have continued to swirl about whether he might one day come back, the former Patriots tight end has done quite well for himself. He has since become an analyst for Fox Sports and recently signed a deal with WWE, debuting on “Friday Night Smackdown” last Friday. He is set to host WrestleMania 36 on April 4-5.
After leaving the Patriots and signing with the Buccaneers last week, Brady will inherit a solid pair of tight ends in OJ Howard and Cameron Brate. But the success he had with Gronkowski as his biggest target is unmatched — he threw 90 touchdowns to Gronkowski in the regular season and playoffs, more than twice as many as any other pass-catcher.
Tom Brady and Rob GronkowskiGetty ImagesGronkowski did use to own a house in Tampa, but even that and Brady may not be enough to pull him out of retirement.
“Rob’s had a house in Tampa before, so he is familiar with the territory. But man, he left for a reason,” Chris Gronkowski said. “It’s an absolute grind. It doesn’t matter how good he feels today. It’s just one hit away from, you know, being right back to where you were before.
“No matter how much you train for it, no matter what you do to protect yourself, taking a blindside hit up the middle is going to take you out. He left the game on the top, at the highest level he could.”
