Fans everywhere can rejoice: Gritty is innocent.

Philadelphia police said Monday morning that the person portraying the bizarre yet endearing Flyers mascot did not punch a 13-year-old boy in November, which the boy’s father had alleged.

The police department’s investigation “has been completed and is no longer active,” with Gritty being vindicated.

“We are pleased that the Philadelphia Police Department concluded there was no merit to the alleged claim,” the Flyers said in a statement to ESPN. “The police department’s statement confirms our thorough internal investigation that found no evidence of the described actions ever having taken place.”

Chris Greenwell claimed his son Brandon was punched in the back by Gritty “as hard as he could” after getting an autograph on Nov. 19.

“This could have been handled so simply but they tried to bribe me not to speak about it,” Greenwell claimed in a Facebook post last month. “The Wells Fargo Center refused to let me see the video of it and the police had to get involved in it to get it. They tried to get me to drop it by offering tickets and all I can drink passes at one of the bars there.”
