Hockey won’t be gone for too long.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman confirmed at Tuesday’s 2020 NHL Draft that the league is targeting Jan. 1 for the start of next season.

The 2019-20 season concluded on Sept. 28, with the Tampa Bay Lightning being crowned Stanley Cup champions.

Bettman announced the decision before the Rangers selected Alexis Lafreniere with the top pick in the draft.

Quinton Byfield and Tim Stutzle were taken by the Kings and Senators, respectively, with the next two picks.
