OTTAWA — John Tavares continued his quick start, but it wasn’t enough for the Islanders.
Mike Fisher scored 32 seconds into overtime to give the Senators a 3-2 win over the Islanders last night.
Fisher broke down the left side and put the first shot of the extra period past Martin Biron as Ottawa (2-1) won its home opener.
Tavares, the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NHL draft, recorded his third point in two games with the Islanders (0-0-2). Tavares assisted on Matt Moulson’s power-play goal 5:29 into the third which tied the game at 2-2. The 19-year-old center had a goal and an assist in his debut, a 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
