Michael Grabner has been a positive in another down year for the Islanders.

The rookie was honored as the NHL’s first star of the week after scoring eight goals in four games, leading the Islanders to a 3-1-0 record. Grabner scored game-winning goals against the Canadiens and Sabres in overtime. He also netted his first career hit track in Sunday’s win at Buffalo.

The Islanders picked speedy Grabner off waivers from the Panthers on Oct. 5 and he has become a Rookie of the Year candidate with 24 goals.

Sabres winger Drew Stafford was the second star and Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov was the third.
