Comcast SportsNet (via the Chicago Tribune) reports that next season’s outdoor NHL game will be played at Wrigley Field, pitting the Blackhawks against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Tribune report says: “The official announcement will come from the NHL and isn’t expected until next week, but Comcast SportsNet reported the game pitting the rival Original Six franchises at Wrigley is a go.”

It adds: “Yankee Stadium … had been the favorite to host the game as its last official event, but NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said recently the venue had a ‘variety of issues’ and that made a game in Chicago more likely.”
