Sidney Crosby is ready to return, but the final decision is not up to him.

The Penguins star center is visiting his doctor Tuesday to determine whether he will be allowed to play in Game 1 of the first round playoff series against the Islanders on Wednesday.

Crosby, who broke his jaw after getting hit with a puck against the Islanders on March 30, had surgery following the injury and has not played since, while Pittsburgh wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

“I try not to have any [expectations],” Crosby told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. “Just going for an appointment. I don’t have any control over it. There’s no point in getting worked up about it.”

Crosby has been skating with a full-face mask to protect his jaw and is growing more comfortable with it, but it’s still something he has to adjust to.

“It’s something that you get used to a bit more,” said Crosby. “We all wore that at some point; some of us had a cage.”

The former MVP was leading the league in scoring when he was injured, finishing with 15 goals and 41 assists in 36 games. Upon returning, Crosby thinks he would be most comfortable playing alongside wingers Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis.

“It’s not up to me, but we’re pretty comfortable together,” said Crosby, who will likely be allowed to play without the mask at some point in the playoffs if the Penguins make a deep run. “It would probably make for an easier transition. But that’s not my job. My job is to play. When I’m able to come back, I’ll be happy with whoever I’m playing with.”
