In the midst of the best season of his career, the Islanders rewarded PA Parenteau on Thursday, signing him to a one-year, $1.25 million contract extension.
The 27-year-old Parenteau has 14 goals and 21 assists in 56 games this year, placing him second on the team in points. He has skated most of the season on a line with arguably the two most talented forwards on the team, John Tavares and Matt Moulson, and has credited them with his success.
“Playing with guys like Johnny and Matt Moulson, it’s definitely going to help your case,” Parenteau said after the morning skate before Thursday night’s game against the Bruins at the Coliseum.
” I think we’ve been having success. We have some good chemistry, a good thing going and I think that was also part of the extension.”
Parenteau also recognized the opportunity given to him by interim head coach Jack Capuano, who has consistently played him about 20 minutes a game and given him time on the top power play unit. That’s a chance he never got in the past three years while in the Rangers system.
“I have to thank [Capuano], who gave me a chance to play big minutes and prove myself in this league,” Parenteau said. “I think things are going pretty good so far and I’m happy to be back for another year.
“I’ve been working a long time for something like this,” he continued, “and I think I earned it this year.”
