There isn’t a single doubt about it — fresh blooms delivered to your door offer joy, a serotonin boost and a lovely, picturesque way to adorn your home.

Whether you’re planning a sweet surprise for a loved one or simply want to treat yourself more to fresh flowers in 2023, 1-800-Flowers.com has you covered.

Fittingly, the top-rated flower delivery service just announced its 2023 Flower and Plant of the Year, “celebrating love, unity and new beginnings,” per the brand.

“This year, we also saw trends in the floral space such as combinations of flowers with ruffled textures (think roses or carnations) and a looser bouquet style, dried and preserved flowers, bright colored mixed arrangements, and small blooms such as ranunculus, asters, lilac and lisianthus,” Alfred Palomares, vice president of merchandising at 1-800-Flowers — and resident plant dad — told the New York Post.

Reflecting beauty and luxury, the tropical orchid — this year’s Flower of the Year — boasts elegant petals and is native to Thailand. Even better, it’s grown in a variety of radiant colors.

Because these graceful blooms are gathered in unique, farm-fresh bouquets, they make a wonderful treat to give or receive. They make for precious flowering plants, too.

“The orchid not only symbolizes unity and love but reflects beauty and luxury with its graceful petals,” Palomares adds.

Whether orchids are beautifully gathered in unique, farm-fresh bouquets or grown as an elegant flowering plant, these exotic tropical blooms with their structural presence will enhance the décor aesthetic of any home and will deliver a smile to anyone who receives it as a gift.

As for 1-800-Flowers.com’s Plant of the Year, we’re shining a spotlight on the Calathea Rattlesnake, the air-purifying, pet-friendly type that’s emblematic of good luck and a fresh start. It adds much color and texture to any space as well, thanks to its distinctive leaves.

Not to mention, it’s new to 1-800-Flowers.com’s curated Plant Shop.

The Calathea Rattlesnake is a captivating plant with distinctive reptilian-like leaves that brings a refreshing vibe to any room and plant collection. Its leaves, which fold at night to reveal a rich burgundy color and relax at sunrise, are emblematic of turning over a new leaf in 2023.

“Additionally, plants with a mossy green hue continue to trend among customers as they look to find ways to fill their spaces with natural and earthier elements,” Palomares notes. “This shade is represented in the Calathea Rattlesnake as it adds texture and pops of color to home decor.”

Ahead, Palomares outlines three top flower trends he predicts for 2023:

  • Joyful, lively, and vibrant colors: These will be infused in design elements, which can transform one’s mood and lift spirits. These hues include red, chartreuse, magenta. Hues of hot pink will continue into next year as well.
  • Loosely gathered bouquets that include vintage colors: Such as soft peach, pink blush, soft rose tones, and lilac, these blooms will be showed off in vases and containers that are more matte and feature frosted finishes while they showcase delicate blooms.
  •  White and white on white as a color scheme: This is an emerging trend since it provides tranquility and calming elements. As customers continue to look for forms of relaxation and better balance in their lives, arrangements that feature a serene design help to create a more calming environment.

Though these trends are about to be seen all over Pinterest and Instagram, 1-800-Flowers has other signature blooms that grew in popularity this year.

“This year, our most popular bouquet at 1-800-Flowers.com is our Floral Embrace arrangement,” Palomares says. “It features a bright, beautiful mix of hot pink roses, carnations, yellow sunflowers, orange Asiatic lilies, lavender stock and more.”

Oh, and you can’t forget about the roses. They’re are one of the most popular flowers ordered from 1-800-Flowers.com annually, per Palomares. In fact, the brand offers more than 90 rose products including truly original bouquets, plants, and gifts.
