I never thought I would graduate from my dangly, wired Apple headphones.

They were harder to lose than AirPods. They didn’t need to be charged. The sound quality was just fine. They got the job done. But after a few years of riding the subway every day, it was hard to ignore the fact that Beats were everywhere. I had to wonder if it was all hype or if they were actually that good.

When winter approached this year, I finally caved. It was time to upgrade to adult headphones and keep my ears warm. I found the Beats Studio Pro at a rare Black Friday price — and today, these wireless, over-ear headphones are even cheaper than when I bought them, clocking in at 51% off on Amazon. That’s nearly $200 in savings, which is a hard deal to beat… pun intended.

Of course, the acoustics are top-notch (you’re paying for them after all). But, Beats also come with a convenient carry case that feels very travel-friendly, even if I’m just going to work. And, you can easily switch between two listening modes: Transparency and Noise Canceling.

Everyone always raves about the noise-cancellation feature, which can help protect your ears from loud noises and potentially reduce the need for high-volume listening. But it’s actually the transparency mode that really sold me on Beats.

Beats Studio Pro – Premium Wireless Over-Ear Headphones

If you take the Subway, you know there are times when you actually want to be aware of the antics going on around you (like just last week, when I still heard a guy across from me screaming while I was zoning out to Bad Bunny). For me, that safety feature is the reason why Beats are my top choice.

They’re also available in four shades, and the sleek design practically makes them stylish enough to double as an accessory. And for anyone like me who would worry about losing tiny AirPods, Beats feel secure enough to stay in place and comfortable enough to wear for hours on end.

Hence, Beats have become the reason I’m officially done defending my wired headphones. They make music sound a million times better, look good while doing it, don’t require much charging (with up to 40 hours of battery life) and in the safety department, they beat other headphones for commuting by far.
