As an avid reader (and e-reader tester!), I never leave home without an e-reader, and since October, I’ve been throwing the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition into my bag more often than any of the other models I’ve tested.
Amazon dropped its first Kindle model with a full color screen in October, and today, you can get it at its lowest price ever during the Amazon Big Spring Sale (which runs through midnight PST on March 31). At 20% off, you’ll snag this first-of-its-kind product for $224.99, down from $279.99.
You might be thinking, that’s still pretty expensive, right? Let me tell you why the Kindle Colorsoft is 100% worth it, especially right now.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is essentially a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, just in color. It has the same matte, anti-glare screen, wireless charging capabilities, weeks of battery life (I can count the times I’ve charged mine on one hand), and brightness settings. Right now, the Colorsoft is only $25 more than the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition — it just makes sense to spend a little more to open a whole new world of reading.
Here are two examples of ways color enhances the reading experience. Angela TricaricoIn the image above, you’ll see two of the ways having a Kindle with a color screen has completely changed and enhanced the experience of using an e-reader. I read a lot of nonfiction about Hollywood, and I’ve found being able to highlight text in multiple (up to four) colors has been so helpful when sorting through them later; I highlight text passages and meaningful quotes in one color, and use another to mark any movie title mentioned in a book so I can go back and make a more cohesive list when I’ve finished the book.
The image on the right is an example of what a comic book or graphic novel page looks like on the Kindle Colorsoft screen. It looks small, considering the screen itself isn’t as big as, say, a tablet, but double tapping on any panel will activate a zoom mode that lets you see the individual panels with more detail. As a Comixology Unlimited subscriber, this is a game changer: I don’t have to travel with my iPad or worry about killing my phone battery if I want to read comics.
To sum all of that up: the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is the Kindle you know and love, but better — and the things that differentiate it from the Paperwhite are the things that make it worth the splurge.
This must-shop deal is available to everyone, but Amazon Prime subscribers will have a new Kindle on their doorstep as soon as tomorrow — a Big Spring Sale miracle if we’ve ever seen one.
