Travel is picking up as winter getaways come to an end and spring draws near. But before you throw everything in your carry-on bag and call it a day, it’s important to know about TSA’s approved toiletries guidelines.

First, you are indeed allowed to bring toiletries in your carry-on bag and of course, in your checked luggage.

If you are bringing liquids, aerosols, gels, creams or paste in your carry-on bag, they must all be able to fit in a quart-sized bag, per the official TSA website. Each item must also be in a container that holds 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less.

The only way to get around the 3.4-ounce rule is to pack your goods in your checked luggage.

Aside from toiletries, lugging your accessories through the sky, such as your sunglasses and jewelry, can also come with a few stipulations. After all, it’s such a drag when your favorite necklace gets tangled with your adorable bracelet.
