The USTA will announce Thursday at an 11 a.m. news conference with city planners plans to build a new, refurbished Armstrong Stadium and grandstand for the U.S. Open, according to tennis sources.
The Armstrong Stadium is the secondary venue at the USTA National Center in Flushing and formerly housed center court before Ashe Stadium was built and opened for play in 1997. There’s also preliminary designs for a viewing deck.
