MET NOTES

The Mets have lost outfielders at an unbelievable rate this season. Soon, they will lose another one for at least three games, but it’s for a good reason.

Benny Agbayani’s wife, Niela, is pregnant and due July 8. She is back home in Aiea, Hawaii. When she goes into labor with the couples’ first child, Aleia, Agbayani will be on a 10-hour flight from Newark to Hawaii.

“I’ve got a job to do, but not too many times you are going to get a gift from God like that,” Agbayani said before the Mets’ 10-1 loss to the Braves.

Edgardo Alfonzo (strained lower back) took ground balls yesterday. Alfonzo is eligible to come off the DL this Friday. Phillips said he thought Alfonzo would be ready by that time or a couple of days after.

Lefty Bobby Jones and Donne Wall will go to Binghamton Monday to rehab. Jones, who has been out the whole season with shoulder and knee ailments, and Wall (strained right shoulder) both threw off the mound yesterday.

Jeff Wilpon, the senior VP and co-owner Fred’s son, said the inaugural single-A Brooklyn Cyclone game is sold out and the team’s already sold 200,000 tickets for the team’s 37 home games.

Darryl Hamilton hit his first homer in 114th at-bat this year . . . Joe McEwing (hamstring) will be available to pinch-hit today, Bobby Valentine said.
