This wasn’t music to the band’s ears.
Several members of the East Carolina marching band took a knee during the national anthem Saturday, which was met by loud boos from the fans in Greenville, N.C.
Before the 47-29 loss to Central Florida, a few members of the band, on the field, joined the movement that began with Colin Kaepernick, who has stated his protest concerns oppression of minorities. North Carolina has been home to protests since Keith Lamont Scott, an African-American, was killed by police in Charlotte on Sept. 20.

The university’s chancellor, Cecil Staton, released a statement that acknowledged “the disappointment felt by many Pirate fans,” but supported the freedom of the band members to protest.
