Kansas is reportedly finalizing a deal to make Les Miles the Jayhawks’ football coach.
As per Sports Illustrated, the deal could come as soon as this weekend.
Miles, the former LSU coach known for his bravado, reached a $1.5 million buyout with the Tigers on Thursday, paving the way for Kansas to hire the coach and rebuild a struggling Big 12 program that hasn’t been on the right side of .500 since 2008.
Kansas has been through four coaches since Mark Mangino’s time on the Jayhawks’ sideline came to an end in 2009. Miles will replace David Beaty, who holds a 6-40 record through three and a half seasons with a 2-32 conference mark and was informed he wouldn’t be brought back next season.
Miles hasn’t coached in two seasons but will bring a winning pedigree to Kansas. He has a 141-55 career head-coaching record that includes two national championship game appearances with a 2007 title and an 8-6 overall record in bowl games.
