That was the situation Louisiana Tech found itself in after a bizarre play early in the third quarter of an eventual 57-21 loss at home to Mississippi State on Saturday.

On second-and-goal from the Aggies’ 6-yard line, a high snap out of the shotgun formation sailed well past Louisiana Tech quarterback J’Mar Smith.

The ball kept rolling and rolling and rolling as both teams kicked it, bobbled it and failed to corral it until Bulldogs receiver Cee Jay Powell finally fell on the ball 87 yards later. It left Louisiana Tech with third-and-goal from their own 7.

The third-and-goal play call was a Boston Scott run of 21 yards, which led to a punt.
