‘DEWEY’ 2-5 FOR HAMBO
Deweycheatumnhowe will be looking to become the first colt in harness racing history to remain undefeated and capture the sport’s biggest prize, the $1.5 million Hambletonian at the Meadowlands Racetrack on Saturday afternoon.
With an impressive 14-for-14 record, Deweycheatumnhowe was installed as the 2-5 morning-line favorite, the shortest odds in at least two decades.
By virtue of a win in one of three Hambo eliminations, Dewey’s co-owner/trainer/driver Ray Schnittker was able to choose his post for the final and opted for the 1 slot.
“I’ve won a lot of races off the rail,” said Schnittker. “He does everything right and when you pull him he has a high turn of speed. It’s been a nice ride.”
The other two elim winners, Crazed (Tim Tetrick, 5-1) and Atomic Hall (Eric Goodell, 10-1), chose posts 2 and 3, respectively.
Post time for the Hambletonian is 2:43 p.m. and the race will be broadcast live on NBC.
