Evan Eschmeyer, the Nets’ 6-11 center drafted on the second round, underwent successful surgery yesterday in Manhattan to repair a ruptured right pectoralis major muscle near his shoulder. Eschmeyer suffered the injury while lifting weights at his home in Illinois.

The procedure, performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery by Dr. Russell Warren, involved reattaching the ruptured muscle. A team spokesman said the prognosis for a full recovery is good and that Eschmeyer will start a full rehabilitation program in six weeks. Eschmeyer, selected at No. 34, is expected to be out for four months.
