FOUR HOPEFULS MISS BIG DANCE
CUP NOTES
Four horses pre-entered for the Breeders’ Cup last week were withdrawn before final entries were taken yesterday.
Alkaased, a European invader, came out of the Turf because of an unspecified infection. “His blood was bad this morning,” trainer Luca Cumani said.
Keeneland Kat, a longshot for the Juvenile Fillies, came down with a respiratory ailment. “After she galloped (yesterday) morning, she wheezed and coughed a couple of times,” said trainer Kelly Breen. “She wasn’t 100 percent this close to the show, so the only thing to do was scratch. It’s a big letdown.”
Pomeroy, runaway winner of the Vanderbilt at Saratoga, then up the track in the Vosburgh for trainer Patrick Biancone, returned lame with what appears to be a bruised foot from a workout yesterday at Turfway Park.
Three Valleys, a candidate for the Mile, was withdrawn because, according to trainer Bobby Frankel, “He’s been fighting a cough and he’s got mucous. As simply as I can put it, he’s not right. I can’t run him in a race like this now.”
Two Breeders’ Cup horses worked yesterday.
Happy Ticket, who’s picking up a lot of steam for the Distaff, sizzled a half-mile over the training track in :46.2. “She worked pretty awesome,” trainer Andrew Leggio said of his 4-year-old filly. “She’s all business.”
Stream Cat, trained by Patrick Biancone, breezed four furlongs in :48.2 at Turfway for the Juvenile.

Here’s a reminder that a ticket stub from Loews Cinemas for the tearjerker racing movie “Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story” can get you into the Belmont grandstand for free on Breeders’ Cup Day, saving $10 on admission.
“Dreamer” stars Kurt Russell as a down-on-his-luck trainer and Dakota Fanning as his young daughter who helps nurse an injured filly back to health in time to run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
