In the market for a safety, the Giants yesterday were awarded Jack Brewer off waivers from the Vikings. The Giants also waived kicker Mike Hollis after he failed a physical.

Hollis missed all of last season after a back injury in training camp left him unable to kick. He previously played for Tom Coughlin in Jacksonville and ripped Coughlin for being too strict and petty.

The only kicker currently on the Giants roster is Matt Bryant, but the team plans to add at least one kicker with NFL experience to provide competition for Bryant in training camp.

Brewer, entering his third NFL season, has started one game. He was undrafted out of the University of Minnesota. Last year, Brewer blocked a punt by the Giants’ Jeff Feagles.
