At some point in the not-too-distant future, Ron Dayne and the Giants will come to a contract agreement on a deal that will likely be for five years, total about $8 million and include a signing bonus of around $5 million. That time has not come just yet, although Dayne’s agent, Ron Hopson, and Giants GM Ernie Accorsi met face-to-face for the first time on Tuesday, for five hours, in Accorsi’s office at Giants Stadium.

No deal is imminent, and it remains unlikely that Dayne, the Heisman Trophy-winning running back and the 11th player taken in the NFL Draft, will report with his fellow rookies today to the University at Albany. Veterans report tomorrow. “I don’t think it’s going to be a big thing,” Accorsi said of the ongoing negotiations, “but you never know.”
