GLENS FALLS – Major Bernard only made one shot in McKinney’s win over Poly Prep yesterday, but it had quite an impact.

“It was my time,” said Bernard, who threw down a thunderous dunk in the fourth quarter that helped the Kings hold off Prep, 46-41, in a boys B state Federation semifinal. “That gave our team a lot of momentum and got us going.”

The Kings haven’t wasted much time making their presence felt. In only the program’s second year, McKinney captured the PSAL “B” title and will have a chance at a state crown today when it plays the winner of yesterday’s other semifinal between St. Mary’s (Lancaster) and JFK (Somers).

“It’s amazing,” said head coach Deron Rippey. “It’s a dream.”

One that has been made possible largely because of a solid backcourt consisting of seniors Preston Miley and Tameek Floyd.

McKinney reached the quarterfinals a year ago before dropping a two-point loss to eventual champion Wings Academy.
