The magic carpet ride came to a disappointing end for Cinderella New Rochelle yesterday in the New York State Public High School Class AA championship game at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
New Rochelle fell to Rochester’s Bishop Kearney, 45-39, ending a whirlwind season.
The Huguenots, who entered the postseason with a 9-9 record, went on a dream run that began in earnest with Khalil Edney’s 55-foot buzzer-beater to knock off rival Mount Vernon in the Section 1 championship game, a shot that drew nationwide acclaim.
There were no heroics left against Bishop Kearney, which boasts Syracuse-bound forward Chinonso Obokoh.
Joe Clarke led New Rochelle (16-10) with 26 points.
