New York City FC finally parted ways with Adam Nemec, mutually terminating the struggling striker’s contract.

The Slovakian forward made nine appearances (eight starts) for NYCFC, but none since coming off the bench in a 2-1 win over Montreal on July 4. He didn’t score a single goal or have a single assist, never materializing into the physical hold-up partner for Spanish captain David Villa that the club had hoped for.

“First and foremost, we’d like to thank Adam for his hard work and contributions to New York City FC,’’ said NYCFC coach Jason Kreis. “We believe this move is best for both club and player. We all wish him well for the future.’’

Clearly so. The 29-year-old Nemec already has reportedly inked a one-year deal with Dutch side Willem II on a free transfer.
