A Deportivo Cali player got knocked cold by a rock thrown by a fan of rival Millonarios, Red Bull coach Juan Carlos Osorio’s former club.

Deportivo Cali was arriving to a game in a bus provided by host Millonarios. Fans started tossing rocks at the bus, which didn’t have safety glass and was guarded by just a single cop. Apparently, when dealing with Millonarios’ fans, one ain’t enough, because defender Juan Guillermo Dominguez got drilled in the head.

“(It was) absolutely insufficient when faced with fans as aggressive as those of Millonarios,” Dominguez told a radio station. He’d gotten knocked cold for five minutes, and hospitalized with a piece of glass in his eye. That’s just not right.

Millonarios won 1-0, BTW. Not trying to be flippant and rip anybody’s home country, but I can see why Osorio was happy to jump ship to Chicago in 2007. I mean, he’s 0-2-1 right now for the Red Bulls, in last place in the Eastern Conference and the only goal-less team in MLS. I shudder to think of of what the fans down there would do if he had a start like that.

What do you think of this story? Just some few knuckleheads giving Colombian soccer a bad name? Or is there a serious problem going on with fan control down there? Talk to us…
