Ian Hummer scored 21 points and hit the game-winning layup with 3 seconds left to give Princeton a 59-57 win over Rutgers in Piscataway last night.

Douglas Davis added 16 points and Denton Koon 10 for the Tigers (4-5), who let a 17-point lead evaporate in the final seven minutes and had to rally for the win.

Eli Carter had 17 points and sparked a furious comeback for the Scarlet Knights (4-5), who lost their second straight and dropped below .500 for the first time this season. Myles Mack added 11 for Rutgers.

Princeton had its largest lead at 49-32 with 7:58 remaining and led 52-37 when Carter scored seven straight, igniting a 15-0 Rutgers run that tied it with 2:33 left.

After Carter made 1 of 2 foul shots to tie it again at 57, Princeton called timeout with 14 seconds left. Davis then threw a pass to Hummer, who spun into the lane and drove for the layup. Jerome Seagears’ desperation 3-pointer fell short.

Hummer added eight rebounds and five assists, and T.J. Bray had eight rebounds and four assists for the Tigers.

In winning its third straight and beating its long-time in-state rival for the second straight year, Princeton snapped a five-game losing streak at Rutgers.

Iona 80, Denver 78

Randy Dezouvre hit an 18-foot jumper with 1.6 seconds remaining in overtime as Iona, down by as many as 13 points in the second half, rallied past host Denver.

Chris Udofia tied it at 78 with 18.8 seconds left in the extra period, making a pair of free throws. But Iona hurried the ball down the court. Scott Machado drove the lane and kicked the ball back out to Dezouvre near the top of the key, where he swished the winning shot.

Chase Hallam’s long jumper at the buzzer hit the rim and bounced out.

Lamont Jones led Iona (7-1) with 21 points. Machado had 19 points and Mike Glover added 13.

Illinois 48, St. Bonaventure 43

Brandon Paul scored 12 points in the final four minutes to keep No. 24 Illinois undefeated with a sloppy comeback win over St. Bonaventure.

Paul finished off a three-point play to tie it at 41 with 2:39 left and Meyers Leonard gave the Illini (9-0) their first lead since the first half with a pair of free throws shortly afterward.

Dayton 74, Alabama 62

Chris Johnson scored 20 points and Dayton closed with a 17-9 run to knock off No. 16 Alabama and ruin Crimson Tide head coach Anthony Grant’s homecoming.

Florida 78, Arizona 72, OT

In Gainseville, Fla., Patric Young scored a career-high 25 points and Erving Walker made key free throws down the stretch for the 12th-ranked Gators.
