Red Bull notes
By BRIAN LEWIS
Captain Claudio Reynaâs injured calf and forward Jozy Altidoreâs ingrown toenails seem to be in the rear view mirror, with both apparently set to play in the Red Bullsâ bad-blood game with Chicago on Sunday.
Midfielder Seth Stammler hasnât practiced all week and is all but ruled out; that could hurt the Red Bulls, with crafty Cuauhtemoc Blanco always a threat in the Fire attack. If Reyna plays, he may have to shift into a deeper role alongside rookie Luke Sassano to help deal with the Mexican, whom heâs faced a host of times on the National Team level.
âWeâve played each other a lot, as long as I can remember,ââ Reyna said of Blanco, a master at the art of diving and drawing fouls. âHe always adds something to the game, his personality, his temperament. Iâm not the type who gets goaded into things; Iâm pretty calm on the field.
â(Blanco) has every trick up his sleeve. He has to be respected because heâs a creative player, he scores goals, but he has a nasty streak to him. Heâs the type of guy you love playing with and the guy that opposing fans and teams want to get after and annoy and get off his game.ââ
Altidore was practicing as well. He missed two days with ingrown toenails on both feet, joking that heâd have to start getting pedicures.
Coach Juan Carlos Osorio reiterated again that the game against his former club doesnât hold any special meaning to him, and that he holds no ill will against the Fire front office. And if they hold enmity for him?
âThatâs their problem.ââ
