The Jersey Journal reported that construction of the Red Bullsâ stadium has âhalted due to an ongoing eminent domain case,ââ and quoted a Harrison Redevelopment Agency official as saying âtheyâll be impacted by the courtâs decision.ââ But sources told the Post that isnât the case.
Team sources tell us that the eminent domain case is actually for nearby property, NOT the property that the stadium is being built on, and that theyâre still on schedule for a summer 2009 opening, as MLS commissioner Don Garber told the media multiple times over the past month.
The Post was told that the construction slowed simply because theyâre waiting on an ongoing permit appeal to be approved. Large jobs like this frequently do their permits in stages, and theyâre slated to go before the planning board on Aug. 12. The team has $30 million in steel sitting in Port Elizabeth, just waiting for final approval to start erection.
Here is the original Jersey Journal story.
