AGASSI ROLLS IN OPENER
Mike Bryan grew up idolizing Andre Agassi. Last night, his hero let him have it. Second-seeded Agassi beat the 23-year-old Californian 6-4, 6-1, 6-0.
“When you get to this point in your career, you have to appreciate these opportunities,” the 31-year-old Agassi said. “You know you only have a few more chances left and I feel good and don’t want to waste that.”
Agassi said he felt rusty in the opening set, but recovered quickly.
“Once I warmed up, I felt fine,” Agassi said.
In other late action, Barbara Schwartz knocked off No. 13 Amanda Coetzer, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
