The Red Bulls still haven’t confirmed their deal with defender Roy Miller, and the Costa Rican National Team member still has to pass a physical and hammer out a few last-minute details. But his agent said it’s a fait accompli that he’s coming to New York, and insists he’ll succeed once he gets here.
“It’s not finalized yet. He still has to pass a physical, and were still working on some details,” agent Jan Schiefloe told the Post. “But we’re working on it. In the next few days there we’ll be all set, and he’ll be a New York player.”
The sturdy 6-foot-2 Miller has played centerback and left-wing, and even practiced as a defensive midfielder for the Costa Rican National Team. But his best position is likely left back, and he played there for the Ticos. Ironically, the right back was Red Bull defender Carlos Johnson, whom Schiefloe used to represent as well.
Small world, huh?
At any rate, Miller signed a three-year deal with Rosenborg last February, and earned immediate playing time with arguably the best team in Scandinavia. After a right knee injury that required surgery, he got loaned out to Orgyte to regain his form; now he’s coming to the Red Bulls, expected to arrive by Monday.
“He’s a versatile player, about 6-foot-2, athletic and left-footed. He can play left back, he can play center mid, he can play a number of positions,” said Schiefloe, who parted ways with Johnson over a dispute still pending before FIFA. “I think (Miller) will do very well in MLS. He comes from as good club in Rosenborg, and I think he can do very well in MLS.”
