Shagari Alleyne, who was named playoff MVP when Rice won the 2002 CHSAA title, is leaving Kentucky.

He was ruled academically ineligible last month and it was unclear whether he would be able to be reinstated in time to play next season. The 7-3 center showed flashes of brilliance at Rice, but was largely unproductive at Kentucky, where he went after initially committing to Rutgers.

Alleyne averaged 2.0 points per game in three seasons and blocked 63 shots in 68 career games for the Wildcats while consistently struggling to remain eligible. If he transfers to another Division I school, he will have to sit out a year before playing his senior season.
