TAMPA Robbie Alomar retired with everything he wanted except for one thing: a Yankee career.
Alomar, who should be a Hall of Fame candidate, regrets not wearing the pinstripes.
“That’s a traditional ballclub and my dad [Sandy] played there,” Alomar told The Post yesterday when he retired from the Devil Rays. “That was one of the teams I wanted to play for, but I never had a chance. Now there is no hope.”
Like a lot of other Puerto Rico big leaguers, Alomar had an influence on Jorge Posada.
“He taught me so much in Winter Ball,” Posada said. “He was the smartest player I have ever seen.”
