WINNERS

JAZZ: Haven’t been the same since John Stockton’s retirement. And Steve Nash’s MVP season in Phoenix made this a key position in the West. The Jazz gave up nothing by trading up to third spot and tabbing Deron Williams of Illinois.

BOBCATS: Adding NBA-ready players (and former Tar Heels) Sean May and Raymond Felton – mixed with Emeka Okafor – makes this a team to watch.

HEAT: Miami is built to win now and Wayne Simien is ready to play now. At 6-9, he’s a physical rebounding fool, exactly what’s needed to get past Detroit. It becomes a great pick if the Heat lose Udonis Haslem to free agency.

LOSERS

MAGIC: Weak rebounding team took Fran Vazquez, a power forward from Spain. Since when were international players strong on the glass?

RAPTORS: Two years ago, they took an underclassman power forward in Chris Bosh. Now they use the 7th pick on another young PF Charlie Villanueva. Their second pick is SF Joey Graham, a great physical athlete. Love the players but not for this team.

NETS: Needed a power forward, took a shooting guard who only had one good year. Antoine Wright was a 29-percent shooter on 3’s as a sophomore before improving to 44 last season.

THIEVES

PACERS: Danny Granger is a true versatile small forward who can handle, shoot and rebound. So how did he slip into Larry Bird’s hands at No. 17? If he improves his range, the retirement of Reggie Miller is less painful.

LAKERS: So much for triangles, How about towers? The Zenmaster grabbed 7-foot center Andrew Bynum of St. Joseph’s (Metuchen, N.J.) with the 10th pick, then snagged Gonzaga’s 6-10 Ronny Turiaf, a second-rounder with first-round talent.

CELTICS: Gerald Green was expected to be the first prep player taken and slipped to 18th. Providence forward Ryan Gomes could be the best all-around player in the second round.
