Harlem native MoMo Jones has chosen to transfer to Iona over Seton Hall and UMass, the former Arizona guard announced Wednesday.
Jones, who said he was leaving the Wildcats to be closer to his maternal grandfather who has taken ill, wanted to go to St. John’s but was prohibited under NCAA rules (Red Storm staff member Moe Hicks coached Jones at Rice High School).
Jones looked hard at Seton Hall, Hofstra, Marquette, South Florida and Massachusetts.
The powerfully built point guard helped Arizona to the West Region title game it lost to eventual NCAA champion Connecticut. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
