Injuries may well have ravaged what was expected to be a glorious Jets season, but that has no bearing on how the Giants will reassert themselves as THE team in the New York area. So says linebacker Jessie Armstead.

“This year we’re taking over the town,” Armstead said.

That is easy enough to state after season-ending injuries to Vinny Testaverde and Leon Johnson, plus another injury to Wayne Chrebet, leave the Jets suddenly with a suspect offense, especially at quarterback.

“It has nothing to do with Vinny,” Armstead said of his pronouncement. “We talked about it before the season, and that is what we’re going to do. In ’97 it was our show, in ’98 they went on a winning streak and we dropped off, they got the pub. Any time a team wins, more attention is going to go towards them.”
